Have you tried discussing your non-technical pet topics on a non-technical forum?
- dang 3y agoHey, that's not fair! HN is for everyone's pet topics and non-technical stories are welcome. The only criterion is that they be interesting and gratify curiosity. I mean, there's a high-ranking thread about a huge oak table on the front page right now: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36912861 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36912861. As there should be. (You probably already know this but for anyone who doesn't: HN is explicitly not just a technical forum - see https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.)

- vhlhvjcov 3y agoI’m confused, what exactly links the Inquisition, homeowners associations and “diversity groups”? Also what is a diversity group?
- slater 3y agonot op, but a wild guess is i think they're attempting an "oh you know the ones", aka the ones trying for a more equitable society, which the status quo equates with "they're trying to destroy the status quo!"
- dang 3y agoEven if you're right, this is an unprofitable direction for an HN thread to go in. We want curious conversation here, so we have to minimize ideological battle because the two are basically incompatible - see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23959679 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23959679 for a long past explanation about this.
- TRiG_Ireland 3y agoYou're barely coherent at this point.
- dang 3y agoPlease don't respond to a bad comment by breaking the site guidelines yourself. That only makes things worse. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- carabiner 3y agocreated: 47 days ago Your comment history mostly shows comments on non-technical stories. Why is that?
- gettodachoppa 3y agoSome people want to be able to comment freely without the zealots of the New Church of Diversity trying to get them fired. Some people will use HN for job postings. I would certainly expect that anyone with two brain cells to rub together uses a throwaway account for anything but the most boring opinions about C++ proposals. All it takes is a single throwaway sentence 7 years ago that pisses off the Church, and you could end up not getting hired.
