Almost all serious players are present at major conferences & announce that in their blog/social accounts. Pick {Google, Meta, Microsoft, Snap, Netflix, ...} and they are present in {Neurips, ICML, VLDB, HOTCHIPS, Supercomputing ...} with <N> accepted papers.
How is this presence any different to make it worthy of HN mention?
- nomel 3y ago> This is blatant advertising/shilling Are the topics they're presenting "solved", or somehow not interesting? Do you think their presence pushed out more interesting topics? I'm not sure I comprehend the immediate attack for, what appears to be, some neat research. Especially when that research is in the practical context of a game engine that requires good performance on extremely restricted compute.

FWIW I never used any of their product. I _dont_ have objection if HN discussed any of their papers published in SIGGRAPH specifically. I _do_ have an ideological problem about a general blogpost announcing their corporate presence at conference <X> being promoted here on HN. If it was Google or Meta doing the same, my reaction would be 100% the same. Such low effort corporate advertising should not belong here. BTW, Google Meta MSFT all have such posts - and with good judgement (with the company of folks here), HN people don't post them
