Tell HN: OpenAI removed free trial from pricing page
In the latest Wayback Machine snapshot (27th July 2023) of the OpenAI pricing page, there's a "Simple and flexible" section that says you can "start experimenting with $5 in free credit that can be used during your first 3 months."

As of today (28th July 2023), that section is no longer there.

The free trial is still mentioned in the help pages (e.g. https://help.openai.com/en/articles/6643435-how-do-i-get-more-tokens-or-increase-my-monthly-usage-limits ) but could they be phasing it out?
- yuppie_scum 3y agoYou can set a spend limit on your API credits in your account, so just set it really low to like $5-10.
- jaredsohn 3y agoBut that still costs you $5-$10 instead of having $5 in free credits :) Yeah, this is practical and I did this myself to use MacGPT.
- Kalpeshbhalekar 3y agoIsn't OpenAI burning a ton of cash to maintain every search? Maybe after a year of free marketing they are done with freebies? Now it might be time to check the unit metrics and adjust accordingly.
