It's odd how silent people remain about this. The CDC said there was an epidemic of "sadness and violence"[1] among teen girls to.. basically no response. I've brought this to in conversations and most people don't seem to care very much. I don't understand it to be honest

The Department of Education reports over 14,000 sexual assault complaints over a two year period: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/protecting-children-from-sexual-abuse/202305/educator-sexual-misconduct-remains-prevalent-in https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/protecting-children-.... Meanwhile, a John Jay College of Justice Study estimated about 11,000 sexual assault allegations against priests from 1950 to 2002: https://newrepublic.com/article/163905/france-catholic-church-abuse-scandal-american-reckoning https://newrepublic.com/article/163905/france-catholic-churc.... Roughly speaking the rate of complaints to the DOE is about 25 times higher per year than against Catholic priests. Meanwhile, almost a quarter of the country is Catholic, of which 40% attend church weekly (as of 2018). At the very least it’s not clear that sending your kid to Catholic Church every week is especially riskier than putting your kid in any environment where adults exercise authority over them, such as school or sports. The unfortunate fact is that adults sexually abuse children in significant numbers all across society. I suspect the special focus on abuse in the Catholic Church is more a byproduct of America’s longstanding anti-Catholicism. The idea that the Catholic Church and its top-down hierarchical structure is especially conducive to child sexual abuse is an easy story to sell to a Protestant majority country.
