- quantified 3y agoWould the trade model be to require them to set up US factories jointly operated/owned with local companies and hire US factory workers to build them? Opening the US car market to Japanese car makers in the 80s was very beneficial to the US market overall, Detroit was selling planned-obsolescence crap and had to up their game. Crash protection/safety and the handling of data collected by the cars could be sticking points, especially the latter.
