Large language models, explained with a minimum of math and jargon
- xX_neon_Xx 3y agoI know its pedantic (we're on hacker news), but you cant treat latitude and longitude as vectors. I know its just for an analogy but enough people misunderstand lat and long already lol
- mdp2021 3y agoWell "pedant" means "talking to young learners", and we are here to learn (and exchange), but I do not think it is appropriate to call this public «pedantic» there where it strongly seems that "pedant" is used to mean "focused on the trifle". This public includes esteemed prestigious professionals. And people with achievements - who must have had some good focus to get there.
- d13 3y agoSo sad, it seemed like such a good article, and then the inevitable, completely evidence-free and wishfully supernatural assertion: > This is just one of many examples of language models appearing to spontaneously develop high-level reasoning capabilities. In April, researchers at Microsoft published a paper arguing that GPT-4 showed early, tantalizing hints of artificial general intelligence—the ability to think in a sophisticated, human-like way. Pass.
