I have never worked with super conductors, but I did talk with people who have and read every comment on hacker news. From what I can gather, people already make YBCO superconductors in their garage, and this doesn't seem much different in difficulty. Many people have said that it's simple enough that they expect youtube tutorials on how to make it in a week or two.
