413. The Isle of Luing
- TRiG_Ireland 3y ago> a place called Cnoc na h-Earde. I’m not going to try and say it I doubt there are any sounds in there that an English speaker would find difficult.
- mgdm 3y ago"Knock Nah Heard", I think?
- TRiG_Ireland 3y agoThe final e would be pronounced too, I'm pretty sure. (I'm working on the basis that Scots Gaelic language and orthography are close to Irish, so I can make reasonable guesses.)
- DonaldFisk 3y agoIt depends on accent, but probably something like /krɔ̃xk na hɛ:rdʒə/ or /krɔ̃xk na ha:rdʒə/. The last word (Earde) cannot be the correct Gaelic spelling.
- TRiG_Ireland 3y agoI don't know Scottish Gaelic, but it did occur to me that it couldn't be proper Irish spelling, and I do know that Scottish Gaelic has a very similar orthography. That rd cluster is signified as both broad and slender, which is impossible.
- Conasg 3y agoSurprising seeing this! I lived very close to here for eight years.
