Though $900k a year is a lot of money, it's important to properly contextualise things. Plus, different divisions tend to have different budgets. And I assume the potential value of properly leveraging AI on Netflix could be very high. It doesn't mean they're hiring someone to replace writers.
And here, mmm, maybe it's because of my tech-bias. I don't care if writers are being replaced. I'm sorry, I care about quality it doesn't matter where it comes from. AI can very well be used to enhance productivity I don't see that as a bad thing. Not from Netflix, I think automation/AI is a systemic issue... a lawmaking issue. In a country like the USA without any sort of social welfare, that's really the issue in my opinion.
That being said, I support the writer's and actor's strike because I think it's very much their right to organise and demand whatever demands they might be having. You don't really see this kind of tension in Europe at this level because they have much better work regulations and social safety nets.
So much is wrong with the US! But in any case, this article was pretty garbage. The Guardian can do better.
