I took a Greyhound from Florida to California in 1992 because I couldn't afford airfare, and Greyhound was offering $69 one way anywhere in the US. It wasn't a sociological experiment, it was my life. It was 3 days and 3 nights on half a dozen buses. It was sad and scary and difficult for everyone. No one that I saw could afford hotel rooms. We all slept wherever we could. Sounds like it hasn't changed much.
