- bawolff 3y agoThere is already a bunch of exceptions for lead, if this is useful with no alternatives they would probably just add more exceptions.
- cperciva 3y agoNot necessarily. The "strained crystal" approach probably extends to other elements; mixing Pb and Cu works well since there's a large difference in their sizes, but rare earths might work just as well as Pb.
- NoMoreNicksLeft 3y agoCan we get those in volumes necessary to do high voltage lines though?
- amluto 3y agoREBCO tape is just starting to be available in volume, and I don’t think availability is raw materials is even close to being a limiting factor.
- varjag 3y agoRoHS has a number of exceptions. Ambient temp/pressure superconductivity will absolutely be excepted too.
- seventytwo 3y agoNope, sorry. The EU is probably just gonna pass on RT superconductors. /s
- xeonmc 3y agoSee? Brexit was a good idea after all ;)
- konschubert 3y agoI mean, they are trying to take a pass on AI... I wouldn't put it past us.
- ajuc 3y agoLead-acid batteries are mostly lead and legal. I'm sure they will make this legal too.
