Are people using TikTok resume?
Was it taking off or shutdown?
- VoodooJuJu 3y agoHad no idea this was even a thing. I want off this ride.
- rprasojo 3y agoTiktok resume might be a thing for gen Z
- muzani 3y agoTikTok is quickly becoming the dominant social media for youths in parts of Asia. Meta products are optimized for showing off. So is LinkedIn. You peacock an exaggerated version of yourself. People on these apps are okay with it, it's just how it is. Those who aren't don't use it. TikTok is more like a community. It started with dancing. Dancing seems similar to showing off in parts of the world, but TikTok was about dancing together, scaling to a million individuals. It's why they used the phrase creators, it's about your audience, not you. Then people figured you can share everything. Talks about health with doctors and nurses. AMA with religious leaders. There's a lot of things you wouldn't ask a monk irl, but the anonymity helps. My wife uses it for interior design. I like the recipes. From that, it's becoming the dominant ecommerce app. Lazada sucks hard. Shopee sucks hard. Alibaba is still B2B. Amazon doesn't bother. So you TikTok went in. People were sneaking in infomercials, now they prepare a platform for it. I didn't see the resume thing yet, but it seems a natural evolution.
- cpach 3y agoNo way. I can’t really see myself signing up for Tiktok. I already have Linkedin, which is good enough, and that’s what 99% of recruiters use.
- rprasojo 3y agowhy was LinkedIn good enough for you?
- cpach 3y agoIt’s basically ‘Facebook for professionals’. I don’t love Linkedin, but I think it’s nice to see what former coworkers/people in tech are up to, which companies are hiring, stuff like that. I have quite many connections on Linkedin that wouldn’t be reasonable to have on Facebook. Still interesting to see what people are up to, IMO. Getting offers from recruiters have been very useful and lucrative for me. Whenever I’ve signed up for a new job in the past ten years, the recruitment process was initiated by recruiters who reached out to me via Linkedin. My email address is easy to find. But it’s very rare for recruiters to reach out that way. More than nine out of ten times they reach out via LinkedIn (at least in my experience).
