After using a Dyson vacuum cleaner (DC08 Animal) for some years, I now think I've fallen for marketing, the cleaner isn't a very good one and I'd never buy one again from Dyson.
Dyson is a lot of marketing, not so much product. I like the hand dryers though.
- jbronn 15y agoYou're not alone -- in the latest Consumer Reports the Dyson vacuums got some of the worst reviews.
- ironchef 15y agoOdd. The DC28 (Animal) when i bought it (5 or 6 years ago) was rated a very good (and is still kicking VERY well). I wonder if quality has decreased.
- Uchikoma 15y agoSame here in Germany, Dyson vacuums get middle to low scores in all reviews, mostly for suction power, they are very bad at it.
- learc83 15y agoI've had a DC24 for the last 2 years, and I love it. The Lots of attention to detail, like how easy it is to get to parts like the roller so you can clean it. It's also really easy to empty, and the ball design does make it easier to maneuver.
- Uchikoma 15y agoWhat I do like about the DC08 is how it handles, it's easy. The major downside it has not enough power. Other vacuum cleaners get more suction power out of the electric power, and contrary to Dyson marketing, do not get worse. The DC08 might not go down in suction power of time, but it's not great to start.
- macco 15y agoYeah, Dyson is the Apple of home appliances. Vaccums without bags don't make any sense. Don't get me wrong, both companies are very impressing and they make their customers happy, but usually they don't have the best hardware of their industry.
- Nogwater 15y agoI agree that Dyson is the Apple of vacuums, but it's funny because I come to a different conclusion. Sure, they're over hyped, but they also make top-tier products. I hated buying vacuum bags and have been happy with the performance of my Dyson. Whether I'll buy another Dyson, or a different brand: I don't know, but I'm definitely going bagless.
- masklinn 15y agoCount one more here, I'm quite happy with my DC32: I'm very happy not having to buy (and throw) vacuum bags anymore, the vacuum works well and though it's heavy the body is very well designed: all the brushes can be clipped or attached to the main body somehow, which both makes everything look pretty neat and avoids wondering where I put whatever brush.
- sk5t 15y agoAgreed, I bought a Dyson to replace a 10-year-old bagless Hoover, but the Dyson doesn't like my deep shag area rug and trips a blinking red light. So, the Hoover soldiers on, and I feel foolish for buying a vacuum that has no commercial counterpart.
- bmelton 15y agoI own an 'Animal', that I bought refurbished, and I've not only never had a problem with it, but it's been more reliable than any other vacuum cleaner I've ever owned and does actually clean better than others, in my opinion. I've had mine for over 6 years now, so perhaps there's been a quality shift in the interim, but I've had nothing but good experience from mine. Offtopic, while I haven't given it thought before now enough to consider myself a fanboy, I also quite like their bladeless fans and the hand dryers I've seen in rest stops.
- naner 15y agoI've got one of the ball vacuums[1]. It is good (not great) and the value isn't very good considering the price. The vacuum feels cheap and the attachments are all a pain to use. It does work reasonably well for everyday vacuuming on a low carpet, though. Suction is good, bag-less is convenient, pivot ball thingy works well enough, etc. That being said, next time I think I'll hit up consumer reports first. A good vacuum marketed as the greatest vacuum ever isn't really that bad. The Dyson bladeless fan[2], however, appears to be just a big gimmick and kind of a shitty fan. 1: www.amazon.com/Dyson-DC25-All-Floors-Upright-Cleaner/dp/B0014E3GM0/ 2: http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-Multiplier-Table-10-Inches/dp/B00383I0OE/ http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-Multiplier-Table-10-Inches/dp/B0...
