If sentient aliens are out there watching us, I would not be surprised if they're gathered around their equivalent of a TV with their equivalent of strong beer, watching our world and making bets on whether we survive this century or not.
- rwky 3y agoI suppose that depends on your definition of survive but I'll bet one Ningi [1] we don't. https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/Triganic_Pu https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/Triganic_Pu
- SkyMarshal 3y agoWe're like a giant Truman Show to them, except we're all the stars of it.
- rescripting 3y agoHow egocentric. Its just as likely, maybe more, that an interplanetary species would view us as we view ants. Do you watch locusts multiply and consume all before them then zoom in and watch the drama unfold between the individuals in the swarm? Or do you stand back and think "stupid things, they'll be hungry soon enough".
- SkyMarshal 3y agoMaybe you haven't seen the movie, but the guy being observed wasn't egotistical, everyone around him manipulating and observing him was.
- rescripting 3y agoI was thinking more about the implication that we'd be worth going to all the trouble of observing.
