Background for non-UK readers:
Nigel Farage - the main mover behind Brexit - had his account closed due to his political opinions (he is also a renta-gob anti-woke columnist).
The bank tried to cover that up, and the Chair leaked his account details while talking to a journalist.
The Chair has now resigned and Farage is after more blood.
Don't be in any doubt though - the Beeb etc are trying to sell this story as being about the leak; but its about cancel culture and the rising mainstream awareness of it - Farage is a big name in the UK, and the attempt to shut his finances down for having the wrong opinions has hugely backfired here.
- ggm 3y agoAll they had to do was get ahead of the process and be transparent. He'd still be ranting but less people would care.
- mellosouls 3y agoYeah they've screwed up on multiple levels here.
- JazzyEssy 3y agoKeen to see how this progress. I thought their NDA was in order
- Arnt 3y ago"According to their website, Coutts requires clients to have at least £1 million in investments or borrowing, including a mortgage, or at least £3 million in savings." To me it sounds as if he's no longer a millionaire, and that his political opinions are merely the reason that Coutts won't overlook their rules.
- mellosouls 3y agoSeems very unlikely he's not a millionaire, and even if your thesis is accurate it's still his political opinions deciding the account-closing.
- Arnt 3y agoIf his political opinions mean that he the rules apply as written, that's sort of okay. If his political opinions were to grant him an exception, that'd be worse IMO.
