One dead in cargo ship fire, electric car suspected source
- audunw 3y agoDoes this follow the trend of car related fires only becoming news if it’s an electric car? Would it have been reported on at all if the source wasn’t suspected of being an electric car?
- citrin_ru 3y agoPetrol cars are transported without fuel and not a significant fire hazard. Lithium battery can combust spontaneously because of a manufacturing defect or damage and once fire started it is near impossible to put off. Number of electric car is growing and how to transport them safely is still an open question. Guess that's why it reported. A fire on an oil tanker is also hard to impossible to put off once significant amount of oil/fuel starts to burn and it usually covered in news.
