Next Generation of LinkedIn?
Showcasing skills/ experiences beyond LinkedIn - any tips?
LinkedIn is good for sharing traditional job experiences. But for people like freelancers, indie-hackers, or new entrepreneurs, their work/ hustle history is a bit different.
What are some good ways to share all our skills and experiences when LinkedIn doesn't seem to cover everything?
- version_five 3y agoA personal website?
- rprasojo 3y agoI've thought about that, but may only reach so far ...
- server_man3000 3y agoWhy? Try and create quality content. No one cares about a generic vanity wall. True talent will look past the Linkedin hype chain. Write an article about new things you learn and teach others from your perspective or talk about things that interest you.
- tamimio 3y agoEvery time I say I need to be active on LinkedIn I get repulsed by how cringe it is.. every thing about it is just so bad, corporate lingo, corporate music, false inspiration stories, arse kissing, list goes on, I don’t know why or how it still attracts people to engage there.
- rprasojo 3y agoisn't that called the beauty of networking?
- tamimio 3y ago*forced networking, at least this is what it feels.
- rprasojo 3y agowhat is natural networking like?
- tamimio 3y agoJust like what we are doing right now, every one is naturally engaged, expressive to their opinions, support others when they ask questions, and the normal communication. LinkedIn on the other hand, is the opposite, one way communication, so much overly positive feedback that it sounds like bots, and if you question or provide a constructive feedback it will be seen as a negative one, and most people aren’t naturally engaging because they are afraid of any consequences like being fired or similar.
- rprasojo 3y agogot it. Should it be anonymous or transparent?
- tamimio 3y agoI don’t think you can have anonymity on LinkedIn to be honest since your employer or your company is there, but maybe more of a website userbase culture shift on how to engage, which is not easy, HN for example have their own way which is ok for the most part, other sites are also different where you might have some pseudo anonymity, others with no likes or upvotes.
- Shinmon 3y agoYou can unfollow people and/or companies without removing the connection. I go through people I follow about once every 6 to 8 weeks and remove everyone who isn't contributing much to my feed or even worse, only contributes bullshit. If someone appears in my feed with bullshit posts several times in a short time, I'll just get rid of them. I want my feed to be cleanish and only see relevant things. That's helps tremendously to engage easily.
