To parent's point, depending on your org "VSCode" is less the editor part, and more the server component coupled with specific extensions, and probably container definitions for some esotheric projects. We have a setup guide for beginners, and the VSCode route can be set in 15 min , where going for any other editor would probably require half a day. Switching to something else could of course be done with enough effort, but it would take some crazy level sabotage from Microsoft to go these lengths.
