Ask HN: Are Reddit and Hacker News frenemies or friends?

The vibes of Reddit and Hacker News are unlike most other platforms. A lot cooler for the most part. But do folks here dislike or appreciate Reddit mentions? Just curious to know! (I'm relatively new here - could be a beginner question.)

I feel like the two platforms are (used to be?) complementary in different niches.

They complement each other but in my view reddit is more of a platform for every community niches while Hackernews is a one whole communinity for news outlets, mainly tech

maybe it was a few years ago now reddit is mostly just a random social media with pseudonimity

I don't think there is a single answer to that. There are people on HN who love reddit, and people on HN who despise reddit, and people who used to run reddit. Feelings about it are individual preferences, so you'll likely hear both sides when reddit is a topic of discussion.

  Not everyone realizes it, but the same people who made HN were also the first investors of reddit. Only last month did I know that Sam Altman was YC President and Reddit board member at the same time.

Reddit used to be a friend, but evil overlords have taken it over, and keep temping Godwin these days. I nuked my account there. I don't want to help feed the Reich.
