I was in the beta of stack overflow (my numerical id is <2000): it was always toxic and counterproductive, and I stopped seriously using it a year or so into its life (this may have been before it left beta, I don't remember). It is still the best place to find a lot of answers (though their piece of the pie is rapidly shrinking), but participating in the system was never fun.
