My wife had a c-section for our first child. We were told they had to get the baby out 24 hours after her water broke. We were confused why they didn't start the operation until hour 36. Hour 24 was in the middle of the night. We realized later it was unnecessary. It was convenient for the doctor and hospital staff to do it when they did. This had little to do with safety for my wife or child.
