The Mad Magazine Fold-In Effect in CSS – Thomas Park (2020)
- dredmorbius 3y agoI'm ... not even Mad.
- pimlottc 3y agoThis is much nicer on mobile than the other one recently posted [0] but it’s a bit to easy to trigger. I keep triggering it accidentally when performing gestures like scrolling and pinch-zooming. 0: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36855278 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36855278
- manifoldgeo 3y agoI'm the OP for post [0], and I feel the need to explain myself: I made that fold-in 2 days ago just for fun, but then it became a timely joke. So, I scrambled very quickly to throw it into an HTML page with basic CSS so I could post to HN. I don't have any CSS media queries to make it better on the desktop, but I'm going to copy Thomas Park's CSS to make it more usable in the future. Thanks for the critique!
- mdp2021 3y agoThe article is from 2020, when Al Jaffee announced his retirement. He died in April 2023 at the age of 102. Cartoonist Brian Carroll (of "Two Party Opera") celebrated him a few days later with a special "One dollar bill": https://www.twopartyopera.com/comic/fold-this-bill/ https://www.twopartyopera.com/comic/fold-this-bill/

- racl101 3y agoOh man so cool. Loved that magazine. Always looked forward to a new copy of Mad mag every couple of weeks during my high school years. I remember I would get to school early just so I could get my hands on it and read it.
