Bit of a weird response. And assuming a lot of things without checking them or, I guess, caring if they're reasonable?
Of course I have an ad-blocker. "The last thing" is a figure of speech, as you know. And yes, the web is an increasingly miserable place because of all the psychological manipulation, and yes, I would absolutely love to find some organized way to boycott those who make it worse instead of better. I haven't found a way to effect change on my own, but I still believe it would be a good thing, although it's not my highest priority. I don't think these views are particularly extreme. They might be rare but I believe that's because most people haven't thought of them.
I do see some ads -- especially when searching for anything, or using any social media site --, and I do visit sites with waiting lists occasionally (why do you think I don't?). Nevertheless I'd much prefer a world where organizations benefitted less from manipulation, so there would be less of it. But how do you get a powerful group to give away power? You organize against them. Hence, I would like to be part of that if it existed.
- bluepod4 3y agoIt sounds like all you’ve done is install an ad blocker and complain. Why do you hold such extreme (or rare) views when you aren’t even proactively doing anything to fix your problems? It seems like virtual signaling.
- bluepod4 3y ago*virtue, as you know
- ajkjk 3y agoWell, again, they're not very extreme. And they're just opinions I have, not exactly immediate calls to action. More of a guiding philosophy? But who knows, maybe I'll find it in myself to start a real campaign soon. I mention them almost to explicitly virtue signal. I don't want to see a waitlist, and I like the norm of no-waitlists which is being enforced in this comment section... and I'd love readers and lurkers of the comment section to consider my somewhat-harsher philosophy as a valid one. Hence leaving a comment.. In a way it's a little micro-action of saying "hey world this philosophy is good you should share it" that hopes to have some small contribution to the plate tectonics of ideology-space. ...I dunno.
