Can Barbenheimer bring cinema back – and save us from 40-hour TV series?
- inamberclad 3y agoMy two cents: no. A nice cinema double feature won't save us from the movie industry. What will save us are classic theatres. I saw both movies at the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland. It's a gorgeous classic theatre with really rich decorations, low prices, and movies start on time! Going to a mall movie theater is like an amusement park, everything is designed to extract as much of your attention and money as possible. The classic theatre treated me like a person.
- Justsignedup 3y agoCinema is currently so expensive that it makes little sense to go. My family of 3 costs easily 100 to go to barbie. Between 60 for tickets and 40 for snacks. Back on the early 2000s this was about 20 maybe 30. With the costs soaring I'm only going to movies when a big group wants to go together. Otherwise why. Usually gonna spend an extra $20 on top of it to go to an upscale theater with reclining seats and food ordering services. But that happens maybe once a year or less now. Just 8 years ago we'd go to the theater once a month give or take. Hell we can get cheap Broadway tickets for almost the same price as a movie outing.
- inamberclad 3y agoAt my local vintage theatre, it costs $22.50 for three tickets to Barbie at the matinee.
- Justsignedup 3y agoWe had no such option. $20/ticket.
- fullshark 3y agoNo, Oppenheimer is a blast from the past from one of the few Auteurs that can get that budget and promotion for a personal project but Barbie is a toy commercial, and I'm sure executives are already planning the sequel, as well as the Mattel cinematic universe where she teams up with He-Man and whatever toys they can think of that could use a promotion.
- lostmsu 3y agoJust don't watch 40-hour TV series.
