A reminder that Elon had to be sued into buying this company.
- mgiannopoulos 3y agoHe tried to back away when the stock markets fell making financing more difficult/expensive. He wanted a better price. He still wanted to buy it.
- henry2023 3y agoWhat makes you think this? IMO he really wanted to not buy them but was forced to do it.
- mrguyorama 3y agoIf he wanted a better price he shouldn't have started purchasing talks by posting a ludicrous price on twitter before talking to anyone. In the normal world, this is called being really stupid and bad at business
- praptak 3y agoSo he wanted it to take it off the stock market, fix it, yada yada but then realized this is a bad idea?
- hacoo 3y agoHe made the offer impulsively without due diligence, then got cold feet when the market dropped. Real genius business moves
- quandrum 3y agoEvidence points to him wanting to use the potential of buying Twitter as a cover for selling a few billion in Tesla stock without impacting it's value.
- red-iron-pine 3y agoTSLA was crazy overvalued, does no one remember that? The reason the ARK funds and Cathie Woods is famous is basically cuz she bet the farm on TSLA. The stock was absurd -- cars with QA issues and lots of recalls outperforming stocks like Ford or Toyota, companies with decades of making reliable vehicles. Everyone knew it was overvalued by a long shot, and if Musk sold it would crater. So create a headline grabbing buy that would justify shedding tons of shares, then back out and keep the $$$. When TSLA later has a correction he can just ignore it -- got his money already -- and launch some buybacks on the cheap. Except he couldn't back out.
