Ask HN: What are you using Vector Databases for?
Recently, more and more people have been using vector databases for in-memory for LLMs. I think semantic search can be very versatile, and I'm curious about which other use cases people are using them.
- 32gbsd 3y agoNo using any vector databases at the moment
- chipiri 3y agoTo search the best movie for me to watch
- gtirloni 3y agoAnywhere you have data with high dimensionality. E.g. gene expression datasets.
- whinvik 3y agoDo you have some resources to learn more about this?
- seeknotfind 3y agoStylometry.
- ParanoidShroom 3y agoA reverse image search where I look for similar images by transforming images to a dense vector set by a finetuned triplet loss model.
- llmllmllm 3y agoAs well as heavy LLM use, we're also using vectors (with pgvector) for searching text content which is displayed in a table. Works very well.
- rickcarlino 3y agoWhat is unique about your data or use case that makes a vector database a good choice compared to more traditional storage methods?
- llmllmllm 3y agoI want to search based on semantic meaning, rather than partial or exact keyword search. I'm using pgvector within postgres, so I get all of the postgres benefits.
- itake 3y agoFace recognition.
- brianhorakh 3y agoBuilding mixture of experts datasets of multimodal embeddings. Specifically on the Australian power grid at the moment, but more generally on a diverse array of topics.
