I don't think the inclusion of the overall deposit of all testing is necessary for the paper, though it's useful for background. As an aside, the NYT should at least wait till it gets published in a journal. I don't like the now common practice of citing of arXiv as the equivalent. It's sorta okay for fast research but continuous use for more than that undercuts the review process.
