Seems to be a natural optimization. A new type of role comes along, experiences rapid initial growth, then orgs figure out that it’s really just another spin on an HR role, so they get merged into mainstream HR. I expect the same thing to happen to “Chief AI Officer” roles - they will be absorbed back into CIO/CTO roles.
