Why would one's profession be even partially a justification for one's existence (why need a justification at all)? That is a very weird way to look at the world.
- ransackdev 3y agoA lot of people need some purpose/meaning for being here, and without it they wonder “what’s the point?” Some people bury themselves in work, some people go hard into religion, some people forget with substance abuse. This is existential dread and I’d say it’s more common than not, and that your perspective is the rarity. The beautify of life is that we each get to choose for ourselves if it means anything, and what that meaning is if so, and people judging others for what they’ve assigned to their own life, as justification, holds no water.
- RandomLensman 3y agoMaybe my issue is really the word "justification" because I find that very harsh in that context.
- jebarker 3y agoI agree. It took me lots of therapy to understand that I felt a constant need to justify my existence through achievement and it was ruining my life.
