- sneak 3y agoThe article addresses that.
- lern_too_spel 3y agoIt does not. This article is about data collected from specific foreigners outside the US who were under surveillance. The FBI searched that data for any mentions of a US senator.
- mardifoufs 3y agoAh well they suspected it so it's fine :). And yeah sure, they drone striked American citizens without any judicial process but spying on them would never, ever! Happen. That's just too far.
- lern_too_spel 3y agoThe Constitution doesn't require judicial process. It requires due process. Warmaking and national defense powers lie with the executive and legislative branches, and there is precedent that the courts should not interfere with the military chain of command. The executive informed the congressional oversight committees more than a year before the assassination. Spying on Americans without a court order is illegal. The US government can still spy on Americans with a warrant.
- PhilipRoman 3y ago...or ask a closely allied country to spy on their behalf.
- lern_too_spel 3y agoThat is also illegal without a warrant, and there is no evidence that the US has done this, despite many leaks and oversight reports.
