- willcipriano 3y ago"we have had 13. states independant 11. years. there has been one rebellion. that comes to one rebellion in a century & a half for each state. what country before ever existed a century & half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms. the remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. what signify a few lives lost in a century or two? the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. it is it's natural manure." https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/jefferson/105.html https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/jefferson/105.html

- cpursley 3y agoInteresting. Any examples?
- MarkMarine 3y agoThere has only even been one way that succeeds, violence. I hope it doesn’t go that way, but the idea that those with absolute power will simply grow a conscious and give it up… I don’t see that happening
- Zetice 3y agoYou don't, nor would you want to in this case. Some amount of waste, fraud and abuse must be tolerated in any system.
- guerrilla 3y agoIndeed, who watches the watchmen? It's an insoluble problem. Your choices are circularity or infinite regress.
