Stack Overflowed
- xwowsersx 3y agoThis example at the bottom is too good https://ibb.co/4Rqfr2M https://ibb.co/4Rqfr2M I can feel it
- wredue 3y agoAnd then in the call: User “So since about 8 this morning…” You “Wait. You knew about this 8 hours ago and only NOW you’re telling us about it, and this needs solving today?” 7 minutes later You “hey. Found the problem, but unfortunately the fix needs follow up. Can you <perform rest of fix>” 45 minutes later You “It seems like you’re away. Can you ping me someone else that can do this real quick” 12 hours later User “hey. Sorry. Thanks, we actually figured it out and we didn’t need to rerun, it turns out.”
- eek2121 3y ago@wredue, the trick is to dictate the direction of communications and mute after work comms. Also, if they make a real effort to reach out to you, make sure you are absolutely unavailable 90% of that time. "Hi uh, can you help us fix X problem", "unfortunately, I'm an hour away from home and don't have my laptop. I will be back around 10:00pm, if you still need help please reach out."
- 38 3y ago> Stack Overflowed enables me to freely vent about my team's outages, unlike the guy who flaked on my 45-minute meeting last Friday. > Anonymous manager maybe stop having pointless meetings? https://youtube.com/watch?v=OlMU6p9OzMg https://youtube.com/watch?v=OlMU6p9OzMg
- ysavir 3y agoThe meeting in question may have been with their therapist, based on the context.
- eek2121 3y agoGood luck with pushing that narrative. In my entire career, no company has been able to do that. My last company had 30 hours of meetings per week.
- _jal 3y agoShopify is trying: https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/12/tech/shopify-meeting-cost-calculator/index.html https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/12/tech/shopify-meeting-cost-cal... But yes, after we were bought by $veryLargeCo my meeting load roughly tripled.

- Xeoncross 3y ago"When you read documentation that makes you question your reading ability" I didn't think this was for me but now I'm signing up for the Pro plan.
- transformi 3y agoSuggestion: Make it with WEBRTC, instead of phone call...
- ericpauley 3y ago> Can I volunteer for the hotline? > Give us a call and mention that you are interested in being a volunteer, at which point we will immediately convert the therapy call into a four-stage technical interview. Amazing…
- jekude 3y agoWhen did P.F. Changs become a FAANG?
- alex_lav 3y agoPFAANG
- talles 3y ago> Our users may or may not work here What's the point of that section?
- turtledragonfly 3y agoHumor, I believe (: Poking fun at similar sites that plaster tech company logos on their splash pages to make it seem like they're important, when any real affiliation may be tenuous at best.
- cm2187 3y agoFrom the title I assumed it was a home for all the valid and interesting questions killed by the admins of stackoverflow.
- qntty 3y agoAnyone try putting their number in? Did you actually get a call?
- stedman 3y agoGross to see toxic attitudes normalized like this. These folks could all benefit from reading the 15 commitments of conscious leadership https://conscious.is/15-commitments https://conscious.is/15-commitments In particular the bit about taking responsibility for ones circumstances > I commit to taking full responsibility for the circumstances of my life, and my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. I commit to support others to take full responsibility for their lives. vs > I commit to blaming others and myself for what is wrong in the world. I commit to being a victim, villain, or a hero and taking more or less than 100% responsibility.
- nimbius 3y ago> i commit to taking full responsibility for the circumstances of my life, and my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing No thanks. This is a uniquely neoliberalist perspective on the collective human experience. The sentiment is toxic because much of the circumstance of ones life in the 21st century is not under their control at all.
- majikaja 3y agoTech elites aren't in control of their lives?
- altsyset 3y agoI actually called and had a wonderful session. Thanks
- brianjking 3y agolol, wut
