One Woman’s Mission to Rewrite Nazi History on Wikipedia (2021)
- johntiger1 3y agoPersonally as a fan of Company of Heroes, I feel conflicted about this. Just by enabling the player to play as the German (Nazi) factions, it is inevitable that one forms an attachment and curiosity of the individual men, tactics and commanders during that period of history, even while being totally cognizant of the fact that these soldiers were fighting to keep the Nazis in power. But I don't think the solution is to paint everyone from a "bad" side as monsters.
- hirundo 3y agoThe more we caricaturize them in history, the harder it will be to recognize them now. It is more chilling but more protective to recognize them as ordinary. To make monsters of them is false comfort.
- johntiger1 3y agoFair point. Strong believer in the "banality of evil". When people feel threatened it takes very little for them to turn on their neighbors
