Yep - use whenever possible Poissonian processes. Have you seen an image with real (non-simulated) noise denoized by a Wiener filter? It depends critically on that noise being gaussian - an extremely common assumption. I guess I don’t need to tell you, to put it politely, it doesn’t work that well…
