Perfectly timed for the information apocalypse.
I'm being hyperbolic, of course, but consider this: lots of people are reaching for the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to their "news" diet. And some people are already told to distrust traditional news sources.
So when no journalists are trusted because it's a crap shoot whether a real person wrote the new story, or AI- perhaps DarkBERT- with the intent to sow discord- people will be flocking to their perceived tribal leaders, who are keeping their team togther with propaganda. In the end will any real information be trusted?
- LapsangGuzzler 3y ago> In the end will any real information be trusted? The unfavorable signal-to-noise ratio will certainly make this difficult. But in the end, it’s important to remember that “real information” has always involved people distilling our banal reality into something more compelling and digestible while choosing what to say as well as what not to say.
