I love this explanation for why we should make plans even though folks will try to shoot down planning with "no plan survives first contact": > Even though nothing will go as planned, it's important to have the memory and expertise that did the planning, because that's what's going to be able to think through the as-yet- unknown-unknowns, when the inevitable FUBAR situation suddenly happens later. We don't plan so that everything will go according to plan, we plan so that we are better equipped to reason when the plan doesn't work.
