1) Analyst level - If you have 3 years of experience in tech you should be able to easily side hop, then it's a question of learning some finance basics and using your acquired tech knowledge to make a good impression on principal.
2)MD/Partner - Either need to have been a senior executive at a known tech company or C-level at a successful exit startup.
- quietthrow 3y agoWhat does an analyst do at a vc firm? is it like a smart “admin” (chief of staff) to the principal? I.e. whatever the principal needs you to do - do it now, do it fast and do it well kinda like an investment bank analyst? Or something more specific?
- mamonster 3y agoIt's basically (depending on seniority) like an analyst in PE/IB: Research the market for your companies, do most of gruntwork on startup DD, excel valuations/forecasts, make presentations, etc. I would say that yeah "Principal told me to do this so I need to get it done" is a good starting point, although for funds I'm familiar with (in Europe) it's a bit more structured than that.
