Nothing quite like the greedy desire to show year on year profits. It’s not just Netflix - it’s every for-profit company now.

I've recently been thinking about this problem because we need to get rid of fossil fuel, but those big companies actually have a lot of unwitting supporters (staff, shareholders, and the staff and shareholders of the smaller companies in the ecosystem) that will suddenly wake up and say, "wait, this hurts me in the short term". It's easy to blame the studio and streamers' execs, just as it's easy to blame the (actually greedy) fossil fuel execs, but there is more to the story. It's simply that there's a general pressure to enshittification. I expect streaming to be unwatchable in a few years, except for those who can tolerate advertising interruptions. And this time there will be no Tivo to skip the ads.
