Are we really comparing voluntary entertainment to working a job to make a living?

No, we are comparing coerced "entertainment" with coerced labor. The people who feel compelled to spend every last dollar they own on a game are not doing it for entertainment - they are victims, and something in their psyche has been successfully manipulated by the game designers.
