I see people get their insecurities exploited by companies that sell Veblen goods. They use psychology tricks to make people feel inferior or part of an out-group. Makes me sick. Its basically impossible to stop because you have a Trillion dollar corporation with psychologists, marketers, and astroturfers who's job it is to reinforce the brand with persuasive techniques. Today all of this stuff seems fine under the guise of 'free will'. In the long term future this will look ignorant as we find out the brain merely responds to impulses.
