I mean it's close enough, yeah. 70% of land is there[0] and close to 90% of the people[1]. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Hemisphere#/media/File:No

- bruce511 3y agowell, good to know. 30% of the land, 10% of the people... Of course 70%ish of the planet is water, so by the same logic, "Earth is completely covered by water worldwide" ?
- kimjune01 3y agoThat depends on if you have an ethno-centric or a hydro-centric view of the world.
- aziaziazi 3y agoAnthro / Geo. Hydro view would be “97% of water is saline” and Ethno “4 religions account for over 77% of the world's population” Please correct me if I’m wrong.
- otikik 3y agoWell we call it "The Blue Marble", so we kind of already do that a little bit.
- pixl97 3y agoIt's unfortunate they don't make a GLOBAL sea surface temperature anomaly map... oh, they do https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/sst/anomaly/ https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/sst/anomaly/
- uoaei 3y agoThere's a reason we call it "the blue marble". Effects spread wide enough can be said to be characteristic of the Earth's dynamics without needing to cover 100.000% of the surface. In the case of the article, if it affects enough of the population, we can generalize without missing the point.
- bratbag 3y agoIf it was an article written for fish, I'm sure it would matter
- tqi 3y agoWhat is the threshold for "world-wide" to apply?
