My favorites misstep from GPT-4 was when my friend asked it about the difference between vet bulb temperatures and dry bulb. You see that typo correctly (he was dictating):
> The main difference is in what they're measuring. Temperature measurement at a vet is usually taken to determine an animal's body temperature, often done rectally or via the ear. It is direct and generally provides an absolute temperature value.
> A dry bulb temperature, on the other hand, is a meteorological term that refers to the temperature of the air as measured by a standard thermometer exposed to the air but shielded from radiation and moisture. It does not take into account the effects of humidity or other factors and it is used for weather forecasting and climate studies.
Ridiculous. Like the first version of Google would have realized it’s likely a typo.. I ain’t fearing for my job anytime soon.
- kenjackson 3y agoI tried it with GPT-4 and it said that there is probably a misunderstanding and I may have meant “wet bulb” — and it went in to give the right answer.
- simse 3y agoResponse from GPT-4 just now: > It seems like there's a bit of a typo in your question. I think you may be referring to the difference between "wet bulb" temperatures and "dry bulb" temperatures. [...]
- _ea1k 3y agoIDK, I've given a lot of typo questions to it, and it generally has handled them pretty well. There are some interesting quirks with typo correction, in general. I doubt that wet and vet get substituted all that often, so it might actually be a harder case.
