Except this is a blatant misrepresentation. The CDC data shows that the covid associated death rate has dropped "normal", but all cause mortality rates are still above normal worldwide.
This kind of smacks of the skewing of the numbers where we saw influenza deaths dropped to nothing at the same time we saw covid deaths rise. The real problem is this is propagandizing these numbers because the real number that needs to be looked at is all cause mortality rate and that is still on average 9% above normal across all nations.
The fact that this is not being investigated by either the CDC or the world health organization is a travesty that's pointing out the politicalization of this.
Just a few posts later on hacker News you can see the headline that China deletes covid-19 death data.
- EA-3167 3y agoThere is also the issue that people have been desperately ignoring since the pandemic started... death isn't the only bad outcome of a Covid infection. I have a friend who was healthy, active, not obese, no existing conditions; she contracted a nasty case of Covid and she's never been the same. She isn't dead, she isn't likely to die any time soon, but her quality of life has taken a major hit.
- tim333 3y agoYeah, in the UK and many countries there is an elevated rate of cardiovascular deaths, quite likely covid after effects.
