Tesla builds its first Cybertruck four years after revealing prototype
- ZeroGravitas 3y agoIt feels like the Cybertruck has outlived its purpose. I quite like the visuals of it, but those apparently grow out of the need to deliver a stupidly large truck of the size American's like, with batteries at the price point they were 4 years ago. So no paint job, an exoskeleton etc. to compensate. But others just waited until the price of batteries dropped, then made an electric truck based on existing models. The electric F-150 was apparently a bit of a skunkworks project that Ford tried to kill repeatedly, but now it's arrived people, at least those who like stupidly large trucks, seem to like it.
- Zigurd 3y agoIt is the first prototype built in the factory. This is a long way from being the first customer delivery.
- vardump 3y agoHow were the previous prototypes built?
- Zigurd 3y agoEarlier cybertruck prototypes were built either in Tesla's own prototype facility, or by a company that specializes in constructing prototypes. They claim this one came off the assembly line. That's a pretty squishy claim at this point. I guess we can trust that the car was finished under that particular building's roof. But they sure didn't show it being built.
