The US gov defined free speech in a broad sense so that advertising is considered a form of speech. That means political advertising actually promotes democracy rather than threaten it - from their perspective.
- hackerlight 3y agoThat's a non-sequitur. Just because X receives Constitutional protections does not imply that X inherently promotes democracy. To illustrate, imagine that X = me giving a speech to 1 million people urging them to abandon democracy. That speech receives Constitutional protections but that speech is not promoting democracy.
