Absolutely this.
I'm reminded of the old Breyers ice cream commercials where they'd have some kid read the chemistry farm that was their competitors' product. Gum this, gum that, etc etc. Sadly the company later decided that if they couldn't beat them they should join in too and adulterated their product just as bad if not worse.
I'm not pretending that anything with a scary name is bad or that all natural things are by default good but ice cream is frozen cream with some flavoring, not all these insane emulsifiers that cheapen the product and taste. It's no wonder people fall out of love with ice cream when it's no longer what it used to be.
It doesn't help that options that provide an actual ice cream product are increasingly treated as an ultra luxury product and start charging double what the adulterated product can go for--but I was willing to pay for real ice cream. Sadly the only option I have these days is a foreign product at those higher rates, because the local supermarket has discontinued selling the other brand which still made natural ice cream in favor for some kind of partnership with Breyers.
