Lost my whole weekend chasing this bug down with Samba running as an Active Directory server on a Synology. Posting here as a PSA.
Fix is in samba 4.17.9, see release notes: https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.17.9.html https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.17.9.html
For Synology DSM, SMB package 4.15.13-0796 has the fix. See https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/161649 https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/161649
