Most people seem to complain about the weather or humidity. I find that riding on a busy street, the noxious automobile emissions are the biggest source of displeasure when I'm physically exerting myself (breathing faster just makes me inhale more of the fumes). This is what the e-bike has freed me most of. That and being able to accelerate faster than my muscles can has enabled me to keep up with motor traffic. That said, most of these points would be moot if the US had dedicated bike lanes separate from automobile traffic.
