For me, the perfect laptop would have the chassis of a 12” Apple PowerBook G4, but with updated components: a HiDPI display, a modern touchpad, a modern multi core x86-64 or ARM64 processor, support for 32 GB of RAM, support for fast M.2 SSDs, good graphics, and good battery life. It should have a good mixture of USB ports (types A and C) with USB-C charging support, a HDMI port, and audio ports. The RAM, storage, and battery are all user-replaceable. It should have good support for Windows, Linux, and the BSDs. Bonus points if Apple actually decides to make such a product, which also means macOS support. I’d buy a retrofuturistic 12” PowerBook G4 in a heartbeat!
