Hackers already infiltrate EV chargers. It could only get worse
- yuppie_scum 3y agoCounterpoint: it could also get better.
- HankB99 3y agoIt seems to be a pretty low bar to get better. It's disappointing that it didn't start out better.
- redserk 3y agoThe article is extremely alarmist and is extrapolating scenarios from a very limited set of quotes to the point of absurdity. Specifically the quote: "We’ve inadvertently created a weapon that nation-states can use against our power grid". So someone broke into an Electrify America billing kiosk. There's no evidence presented to suggest that this would cause anything more than a potential risk to billing/customer data -- which certainly is a problem, but is substantially less of a problem than taking out power for a region. I'm assuming the actual charging equipment has physical, non-remotely-controlled safeguards.
- jayrot 3y agoI agree with your point about the alarmism. But >I'm assuming the actual charging equipment has physical, non-remotely-controlled safeguards I'm assuming the opposite. Incompetence is often surprising.
- redserk 3y agoAt some point it is in the power company’s best interest to put some kind of circuit breaker somewhere and I’m assuming the competence would be on the power company’s end.
